About the Author
Karen K. Kirst-Ashman is Professor Emerita and former chairperson in the Social Work Department at the University of Wisconsin-Whitewater, where she taught for 28 years. She has written six social work textbooks in multiple editions and numerous publications, articles, and reviews on social work and women's issues. She also has served on the Editorial Board of AFFILIA: Journal of Women and Social Work, and as a consulting editor for many social work journals including the Journal of Social Work Education. Dr. Kirst-Ashman has been a member on the Board of the Council on Social Work Education (CSWE) and has served as a CSWE accreditation site visitor on various occasions. She is a Licensed Clinical Social Worker in the state of Wisconsin. She has been the recipient of both the University of Wisconsin-Whitewater Roseman Award for Excellence in Teaching and the University Outstanding Teaching Award. She earned her BSW degree and MSSW degree at the University of Wisconsin-Madison and her Ph.D. in social work at the University of Illinois at Urbana-Champaign. She has worked as a practitioner and administrator in child welfare and mental health agencies.

Grafton H. Hull, Jr. (BS, MSW, PhD) has taught at Fort Knox Community College, Morningside College, the University of Wisconsin-Whitewater, University of Wisconsin-Eau Claire, Missouri State University, Indiana University Northwest, and, most recently, the University of Utah. He has been a faculty member, department chair, program director, director of a school of social work, and Special Assistant to the Senior Vice President for Accreditation. Among other professional activities, he has served on the CSWE Board of Directors, Commission on Accreditation, Nominations Committee, and as a President of the Association of Baccalaureate Social Work Program Directors (BPD). Dr. Hull has been a consultant to over 50 social work programs in the U.S. and Canada and a member of the editorial board or consulting editor for several journals. He is the co-author of seven texts and numerous articles in social work journals. Hull's honors include the Mary Shields McPhee Memorial Award for Faculty Excellence in Research (Utah), Significant Lifetime Achievement Award (BPD), Social Work Educator of the Year (Wisconsin CSWE), and President's Medal of Honor (BPD). His biography is listed in WHO'S WHO IN AMERICA and WHO'S WHO IN THE WORLD.

Brooks/Cole Always a Good Choice! Especially Kirst-Ashman Writings!

Brooks/Cole Empowerment Series is by far the most comprehensive and easy to read line of texts in education in social work. It is very easy to be receptive of. Same goes for the Core Competencies books.

One of the Best Motivational books ever!

I have struggled with a lot of self-doubt in my life. I have always been torn between two polar opposites; anything that I can imagine, and really commit to I can accomplish, and the opposite, that I'm not that smart, special or intelligent, I'm really just a day dreamer. This book provided me with the insight to finally answer the question. YOU CAN ACCOMPLISH ANYTHING YOU CAN IMAGINE, IF YOU BELIEVE IN YOURSELF - AND GO FOR IT! The stories in the book have given me such insight into the struggles of others. I have walked away from the book convinced that I can achieve my wildest dreams. I have read a lot of motivational books, but this one is really special. The authors of this book are the same people that have written the popular "Chicken Soup for the Soul" series of books. In conjunction with this book, I would also reccommend "The Aladdin Principle", by the same authors. If we were to read the story of the folks who have started this wonderful cyberspace book mart, you would see the principles of "Dare to Win" in action. Rather than let others deter them, these folks took an idea, and said why not, we can do this! They "Dared to Win". Your reading this review is proof that they could do it. So what's your great idea? If there is something in life that you want, and you haven't got it yet, then do yourself the great favour of reading this fine book by Jack and Mark. Based around the classic Napolean Hill principle "whatever man can conceive and believe he can be achieve", Dare to Win helps the reader understand how this principle actually works and offers strategies to help train your subconscious to help you achieve all the things you consciously want.
Most of us have a subconscious mind that is not being very conducive to us becoming successful in our chosen endeavours. This is not surprising given all the junk it gets fed on a daily basis from newspapers, etc etc. Dare to Win offers help by providing techniques to help focus your entire energies towards achieving those things you want to achieve. Affirmations and visualisation form the focus of these techniques. If you've never heard these words before, then read this book. the bible of pure cutting technique

The Sassoon ABC cutting manual is the bible of haircutting. I wouldn't cut hair any other way than in these pages. I purchased the 2013 edition which apparently is a new binding. I got it from the actual Sassoon salon in chicago. the book is very thorough on each fundamental technique as well as combining them into real haircuts. This is the same book their stylist train by as apprentices and the same techniques they will use on you if you get a haircut in their salon. Sassoon has no secrets, how they cut hair is in this book! the layout and design of the book is beautiful. this is the most important tool for any hairdresser! what good are your shears and salon if you don't know how to cut hair?! there are many books out there on how to cut hair but this is THE BOOK! this is a must have to every hairdresser in the world. the current updated editions are no where on the internet and even their own site is often out of stock. it costed me $130.00. if you can not find the ABC cutting manual, I would go as far as calling one of their salons and asking them to mail it to you. A hairdresser must have this!

Life Changing--

Summarizing this book in a series of a few short sentances would do it a vast injustice. Instead let me simply remark that this book was not only profoundly illuminating and determinately enlightening, but it was life changing as well. It is not a heavy read in any sense and anyone curious about answering the question, "Why do we do what we do?" should pick it up. Highly engrossing and highly recommended.

This is book has the 2010 American Heart Association guidelines that is required for Healthcare Provider training. Note: The guidelines change every 5 years. The new books with the 2015 guidelines should be available in early 2016. It takes the AHA about a year to make the books available & start teaching the new guidelines once the guidelines are announced.

Hard to write anything. Bought it for BLS review class and we never even opened it up. I'm sure all the info is great, just resent being told to buy a book that we didn't use, and it was then changed, so couldn't resell. Not the books fault though!

This book is awesome. I bought it for a class and ended up reading it on my own time. It is basically "How It's Made" in book form with lots of pictures and simple descriptions. I have learned so much reading it, and even my boyfriend has asked if he can borrow it to read.
